TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR PD DYSKINESIA

Managing PD dyskinesia has always been a balancing act

While levodopa helps achieve "ON" time, the more you take, the more dyskinesia you will likely have. The less you take, the less dyskinesia you will have, but at the cost of experiencing more "OFF" time.

There are various ways your doctor can manage or treat PD dyskinesia, including:

Levodopa
Changing the levodopa dosage and how often you take it so that you get just the amount to control PD symptoms, but not enough to cause dyskinesia

Oral Medications
Adding immediate release (IR) or extended release (ER) oral medications. IR medications are taken multiple times per day and ER medications are taken once per day

Surgery
Undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS), especially if oral medications cannot control symptoms well enough

There are many ways to manage dyskinesia; find out more about one option. Talk to your doctor to find out what plan is right for you.
